Since all this started, you’d hardly know Kayla Fiveash’s usual full-time job. She has worn plenty of hats — along with protective gear and masks.
She has worked in a COVID-19 testing center, comforting patients, leading them to rooms at Vanderbilt Medical Center. She has helped with lab work. She has experienced 12-hour overnight shifts, manning the hospital’s entrances, protecting vulnerable people inside the facility.
She has taken staff members’ temperatures. She worked alongside those who — like her — are typically stationed in other departments: a dental hygienist, someone from a research lab.
