Kennedy praises Tennessee staff for COVID-19 quarantine help

As soon as Tennessee’s spring football camp concluded after only one week, things got really weird there for a while.

The Vols weren’t just sent away from the football facility. They and the rest of UT’s students, like their peers across the country, were sent home to finish the spring semester online because of the worldwide novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Since all this started, you’d hardly know Kayla Fiveash’s usual full-time job. She has worn plenty of hats — along with protective gear and masks. 

She has worked in a COVID-19 testing center, comforting patients, leading them to rooms at Vanderbilt Medical Center. She has helped with lab work. She has experienced 12-hour overnight shifts, manning the hospital’s entrances, protecting vulnerable people inside the facility.

She has taken staff members’ temperatures. She worked alongside those who — like her — are typically stationed in other departments: a dental hygienist, someone from a research lab.
